Monthly Merchant: The Tasting Room's #WineWednesday Recommendation

Our September Wine Merchant of the Month is The Tasting Room in Bath - and they have a #WineWednesday recommendation that's perfect for the transition between summer and autumn...

September for us heralds the beginning of the end of summer – misty mornings along the river, the ochre colours of falling leaves, golden evenings spent sipping wine…

But what wine to gently ease us into autumn? Well, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy a lovely white before the onset of chill has us turning towards the malbec and merlot. We’ve found the perfect white for the season is something with a burst of fruity flavour – a rich, buttery finish combined with a pop of luscious fruit that is reminiscent of the longer days past.

Autumn makes us think of crumbles, and one of our favourites is gooseberry. The Paua Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand's ever popular Marlborough region is full of crisp gooseberry fruit, with an abundance of tropical fruit flavours.

The creamy finish makes it delightful sipping on its own, or with fresh fish dishes. It’s also a lovely accompaniment to salads – make the most of the end of the warm days by tossing leaves with chicken breast, toasted walnuts and avocado.
