Now we're officially in September, everyone knows you're allowed to crank the booze kick in your cocktails up to an eleven: it's colder, it's Christmas, and everyone is inviting each other around to get their 'merry' Christmas on.
I first had hot spiced apple juice at a late-night Christmas shopping event at my local tearoom a few years ago, and it was a huge revelation - it even tasted better than mulled wine! Besides, mulled wine isn't to everyone's taste anyway, so there needs to be an alternative way of getting your guests all cosy and tipsy - and this is it.
This recipe was perfect for today because - as I mentioned in my giveaway post this morning (you could win gin - look!) - Warner Edwards are releasing their sloe gin today too!
Spiced Apple Sloe Cooker cocktail recipe (serves six)
Ingredients:
- 800ml cloudy apple juice
- 150ml sloe gin
- 100ml spiced rum
- 1tbsp maple syrup
- 1 cinnamon stick
Shake it!
1. In a saucepan, combine all of the ingredients and heat gently (do not boil!) for about 10 minutes, until it's at a low simmer.
2. If you have time, turn the heat down (we're talking almost as low as it can go) and let the mixture sit for another 15 minutes to the flavours infuse.
3. Remove the cinnamon sticks and serve in pretty teacups or latte mugs.
Have a lovely, warm weekend everyone!
