Friday Cocktail: The June Bug

You know how it is - you find out your best friend's life has unravelled before her eyes, and you don't know what you can possibly say to make things better for her. So what do you do? GO OUT FOR COCKTAILS!

That's exactly what I did yesterday after what was a super-tough week - after which, there really is nothing better than a refreshing, fruity cocktail with superfluous fruit in it and a great big kick of sauce to blow your troubles away.

We went for the most fruity, boozy cocktail on the menu, and an unsung hero that just doesn't get enough love in comparison to it's daquiri/colada peers: the June Bug.

Not only is this delicious and dangerously drinkable, it's a good excuse to go out and grab a bottle of Midori which is currently on offer at ASDA for a ridiculous £9.50. You need some melon liqueur in your life, seriously. You also need banana liqueur, obvs - and Amazon do a bottle of the classic Bols creme de banane for £9.19. Think of the fun you'd have! I mean, it's bound to be sunny at some point even if you don't have a personal crisis that needs fixing with cocktails.

June Bug (makes one)

You will need:

25ml midori
25ml malibu
25ml banana liqueur
100ml pineapple juice
Strawberries, to decorate (optional)

Shake it!

1. Pour all ingredients (except strawberries) into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
2. Shake it like you just don't care for a good ten to fifteen seconds.
3. Strain into a highball or margarita glass.
4. Add just 2-3 ice cubes (you don't want it watered down too much) and a couple of whole strawberries.
5. Drink with a straw. It's always somehow better with a straw.
